Installation

Installation Guidelines

  1. Inspect product against the packing slip and check for shipping damage, as well as for any deficiencies prior to installation (e.g. cracked glass, missing parts, etc.) Contact your Dealer or Miranda if any issues are identified. Do not remove center strap or stretch wrap used on double hung or double sliding windows until securely installed in opening.
  2. Inspect and measure the rough opening to ensure there is adequate space for shimming and insulation. Remove any obstructions that would prevent the window or door product from being installed plumb, level, square and without twist.
  3. Install sill flashing prior to window or door installation. Sill flashing or membrane must be installed onto the sill area of the rough opening in a weather-tight manner and drain to the exterior. For sills without positive slope a sill pan can be purchased and installed.
  4. Position window or door product into rough opening and level the sill. Add additional shims on the sides, 4” up from the corner, under each mullion, at horizontal and vertical midpoints, at hinge locations and at intervals of approximately 16”. Shims are not typically required along the top due to possible deflection of the header. Adjust shims as required to ensure unit is level, plumb and square.
  5. Products with an integral nail fin should be secured with a minimum 1 1/4" fastener into the structural framing. For products without nailing fin, fasten through the frame and shim. Masonry straps applied to the sides of the frame prior to installation can also be used. Straps should be fastened to the frame at points adjacent to the recommended shimming locations. Note: never apply fasteners through the bottom of the frame.
  6. For siding applications install a drip cap above all window or door products.
  7. Fill the cavity between the frame and rough opening with low-expansion window/door foam. To ensure proper coverage foam should be applied in two passes. The first pass applied along the outside edge of the frame and the other along the inside.
  8. Seal the outside of the frame to the structure using a bead of good quality exterior grade butyl rubber caulking.

Maintenance

  1. Do not paint or stain weatherstripping, hardware, frame tracks or any window component.
  2. Regularly cleaning of the window or door surfaces will ensure the product retains its lustre for a long time. Normal cleaning can be carried out using a damp soft cloth rinsed in a mild dish soap solution. Never use power washers, brushes, solvents, stripping compounds or abrasives to clean any component including the glass.
  3. Lubrication of moving part will extend the life of the product. For sliding windows and doors clean the grooves of the frame tracks regularly to remove dust, sand and dirt that may accumulate. Lubricate all sliding parts with a food grade silicon at least twice a year.
